This Month’s Favorite Links

Yes, the month’s links…

In my tag surfing I came across this great quilting option, concentric circles.  I considerd using it for Quilt #5, but I wasn’t sure I had enough time and I didn’t want to quilt over the embroidery, so I opted to go linear.  I still want to try this on a future quilt, though.  (Photo by To Ithaca, but I cropped it to fit here)

$10 created this simple, modern above-the-bed decoration with branches from the craft store and fence staples. (from Apartment Therapy)

I have the worst time trying to decide what to put above the bed.  I’m always concerned about it falling down on me in the middle of the night, especially if an earthquake hits, so shelves and pictures are out of the question.  A wall of curtains is a pretty option, but they’re big dust catchers.  I’m considering squares of pretty, starched fabric or wallpaper samples and white molding tacked around them to hold them up, or the minimalistic branch approach.

Eventually, I’d love my bedroom to look like a posh hotel room :)

I’m leaving for the fabric store in about one hour to go buy sticky foam to make these fantastic DIY shoe insoles. (by Grosgrain)

This Week’s Favorite Links

There’s a lot this week!  Sometimes I have none and sometimes I hit the jackpot…

Collette Patterns came out with a men’s shirt pattern and are offering this free pdf download of pocket variations for it, but really you could use these for anything that requires a pocket!

It was kind of exciting to see a picture (left) from one of my favorite blogs, Darling Dexter, in a post from Apartment Therapy!  Even more exciting, the post was about quilts!

I really like this idea of a perpetual calendar/journal (via Design Sponge) and I’m half tempted to start one for us in January, although I think it would be a challenge for me to come up with just a few words or one line!  But it really would be fun, especially if I continued it each year.

Have a great weekend, everyone!  I’m anticipating two days of laundry (boo!) and sewing (yay!) mixed in with a little experimental cooking (yikes!).  Good times.

This Week’s Favorites…

I could post pictures of all of Denyse Schmidts quilts here because I love them so much, but I think that might be overdoing it.  So just go to Denyse Schmidts Quilts and see them all for yourself.  Absolutely beautiful.  These are the kind of quilts I strive to make.

Searching through whip up’s archives yields some interesting results, like this roundup of knitting patterns.  Per my recent entrance into the knitting world, I especially like this list.  The Brioche Neck Warmer above by tentenknits is one of my favorites.

Rebecca of cubic dreams put up this great tutorial on refashioning an oversized, thrifted skirt into a cute button-down with pleats! So cute and so easy.

Juebejue posted this in October, but I’m just getting around to linking to it.  It is a wealth of free drafting patterns from a tailoring book that her Dad brought from China when her family moved to the US.  She shares a ton of pictures of some of the patterns on her blog post that you can copy.  So generous!
